I was attempting to unlock and root my LTE Xperia Z Ultra and in doing so got a boot loop. I managed to install the adv-stock-v4.img and boot into CWM and then I sideloaded The RadioActive ROM from the Z Ultra Android Development forum. The ROM works fine except that it only supports GSM and After installing TWRP, you can install any custom ROM you want.-----The short explanation above is the way to install custom ROM with unlocked bootloader. If your device bootloader can't be unlocked, the only ROM you can install is the stock-based ROM like PureX Z Premium. And you need a different way to install recovery.

Install TWRP on Xperia Z. Connect your Xperia Z to the PC via USB cable. Copy the downloaded XZRecovery-1.0.apk to the internal or external storage of your device. Using a file explorer browse to the location where the apk was copied and Install it. Tap on Install Recovery to launch the installing process.
